NDIA commits to Plan Review improvement

This month, the Commonwealth Ombudsman has handed down a report on the National Disability Insurance Agency’s (NDIA) handling of the NDIS Plan Review process.

The report follows receipt of a significant amount of community complaints, particularly over the lack of communication from the NDIA and timeliness of the NDIS plan review process, with some people reporting a waiting period of some 8-9 months to confirm review outcomes.

The Ombudsman’s report outlines 20 recommendations to improve processes, covering:

Improving the handling of requests – including responding within specified timelines, indicating completion timeframes and identifying an enquiry contact.
Providing notices of a decision – Providing clearer information on the plan review process and criteria used to assess the individual’s review request.

The NDIA has stated that it will take on board all Report recommendations, committing to improving its internal processes, and consistency in the handling of requests and service standards; and putting measures in place to clear the current backlog.

Reviewing your Plan

Your NDIS plan will be formally reviewed annually to ensure that your funded supports continue to meet your needs and assist you to achieve your goals.

If you are unhappy about any aspect of your approved plan, you can request an internal review by the NDIA within the first three months of commencement.

After three months, your plan will only be reviewed if you have experienced a significant change of circumstances.

At Assured Home Care, we can assist you in assessing your support needs, both now and into the future.
